November 8th: 1pm to 5pm

Want to know what projects we have? Maybe there is an area that you wish to take on? Below are the areas we have identified and will be needing assistance with. If you are not available on the 10th or 11th, or maybe want to go ahead and tackle an area, please feel free to let us know!

We are grateful for any time you may have, now or later.

Should you wish to adopt a project, email us and let us know! We will mark that area as "Adopted"!

You will coordinate with us to get the materials you need on your timeframe!

Students who wish to obtain service learning hours should contact Mrs. Orr for further instruction.

Fence Painting

Around the upper student parking lot are two sets of fences.  Both fences have had repair work and new rails installed.  All of these fence areas need to be painted white. Some areas need to be sanded prior to painting.  The paint is flaking off with much ease so it won't be too difficult to sand.

Volunteers will need to bring their own sanding pads, rags, and paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Handicap Space Painting

Throughout the campus, we have many handicap spaces.  The paint has faded and worn off the ground.  We need someone to repaint the images.

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags and paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Crosswalk Painting

There is a cross walk between the upper student parking lot and the side entrance to the new building.  We need someone to repaint this crosswalk.

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags and roller and/or paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Car Rider Line Ground Markings

The lane lines, arrows, speed bumps, and fire department markings have all faded to the point they are almost hard to see. We will need these items repainted.  We have the paint marking machines for the lines and paint for the lines, arrows and words.  We just need people to paint!

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags and paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Handicap Door Buttons - Repaint Logos

Throughout the campus, we have many handicap door buttons that have lost their blue paint.  We need someone to repaint the images.

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags and paint brushes (thin brush needed).  Paint will be provided to you!

Speed Bump Painting

Speed Bumps around the school have faded out.  Definitely don't want cars to hit them too hard at higher speeds.  These need to be painted!

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags, rollers and paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Curb Painting

Throughout the school, there are various curbs that have been painted yellow in the past.  The paint has worn off and/or faded.  We would like for someone to paint the curbs red!

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags and paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Pole Painting

Every car door and bumper loves to hit metal poles.  Let's refresh the paint on these so that we can avoid embarrassing accidents!

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags, and paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Mulching

Mulch!  Mulch!  Mulch!  The county was kind enough to leave us their extra mulch from this summer's landscape fresh up.  We have some areas that we need to mulch that the county missed or that we think will freshen up our campus further.

One area we would like to put mulch is the island between the upper parking lot and the mobiles.  It currently has mud and some rock.

There are some area between the mobiles and the old building that need mulch.  Again, bare ground.

The memorial walkway with tombstones needs much spread.

Volunteers will need to bring their shovels, rakes, gloves and wheel barrows.

Drainage Issues

Water and feet can be your worst enemy!

Thanks to Vulcan Materials Company, we have received a generous donation of rock that needs to be spread in a few areas to stop massive water run-offs.  We will need volunteers with bobcats or front loaders who can move the rock to the various areas.

We also need volunteers to help set the rock out appropriately in said areas.

We are also wanting rock spread where students take shortcuts between the buildings.

There are some low points in front of the new building that need a ditch dug and drainage pipe laid down.  This is easy as the ground is very soft.

Volunteers will need to bring their shovels, rakes, gloves and wheel barrows.  And if you have the equipment to move the rock, we need you too!!!

Doors, Doors, and More Doors!

"Well Paint My Door Red and Call me Elizabeth Arden!" ~ Steel Magnolias 1989

Nothing says "welcome" more than a red door!  And boy, do we have a lot of doors.  All of the exterior doors around our campus need to be painted red.  Some are gray, faded, or a different shade.  All the doors need to be painted the same color.

Volunteers will need to bring their rollers, paint brushes, rags, and gloves!  Paint will be provided to you!

Install Metal Edging Guards

Water runs down onto the sidewalk from the mobile unit gutters.  This causes the dirt to wash onto the sidewalk which in turn creates a safety hazard for everyone.  Someone can slip, fall, and hurt themselves.

We would like for someone to install the metal edging guards.

Volunteers will need to bring a straight edge shovel, hammer and anything else you can think of to install these items.  The guards will be ready for you!

Sewer Makeover

When you enter the school from the car rider line by the tennis courts, this is what you see on the right.  Yuck!  We need to paint the concrete sewer cover and put up nicer posts to prevent people from driving over top of it.

Volunteers will need a shovel, a hammer and paint brushes.

Surface Painting

Have you ever walked down a slope that is wet and you might not have had the best shoes on?  Slippery, wet wood is an accident and liability waiting to happen! We need volunteers to roll on a gritty paint on the wood ramps around the mobile areas to protect our Staff and Students from getting hurt.

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags, rollers and paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Bathroom Window Painting

At the front of the school there are windows for the common area bathrooms. The windows are painted for privacy.  The paint has faded and chipped off.  We need to have these windows scraped and repainted.  This is a great project for a small group to do on their own during the week.

Volunteers will need to bring their own rags, scraping tools, rollers and paint brushes.  Paint will be provided to you!

Tree and Bush Trimming

Perfect for those who like to take frustration out!  We have trees all over campus which have shoots sprouting.  We need these trimmed down.  Some of the bushes are so big that you can't walk on the sidewalk or they're growing up over the building!  They need to be taken way down.

We have a dead tree that needs to be sawed down and removed.  There are weeds growing in bushes or dead bushes that need to be pulled out.

Volunteers will need to bring their own chain saw, trimmers, clippers, shovels, rakes, gloves and wheel barrows.

Round Up Spraying

Ever question to yourself how you can grow a weed super easy but you can't grow grass to save your life?  Then this is the job for you!  We have weeds growing up in places that we don't want them!  If you have a backpack sprayer, please sign up to spray weeds. You get to be a Ghostbuster for the day!

Volunteers will need their own sprayer.  Round Up and water will be provided.

Side Vent Painting

These little vents are on the outside of the main school building.  They need to be repainted!

Volunteers will need to bring their own brush (to brush off the dirt), paint brushes, rags, and gloves!  Paint will be provided to you!

Hand Railings

Yellow is the color of sunshine, not Vikings!

There are several handrails located around the school that have been painted yellow at some point over the years.  We need volunteers to paint previously painted handrails a new shade of red.  (Note, any rails not previously painted will not be painted.  Just the existing painted rails.)

Volunteers will need to bring their paint brushes, rags, and gloves!  Paint will be provided to you!

Band Area Dirt Shoveling

Due to drainage issues, gravel washes down to the bottom of the upper parking lot.  We need a parent to shovel this gravel and take it elsewhere on the property to dispose of it.

Volunteers will need a shovel and a wheel barrow.

Calling an Artist!

In the spring, our school's car rider line was vandalized.  It would be very nice if someone could paint something over this area.  If you are interested in taking on this project, please email the PTSO at info@nwhsptso.org.

Pressure Wash All Sidewalks

Once all of the mulch and drainage work is completed, we need volunteers to pressure wash all of our sidewalks!  This will make our campus sparkle!

Volunteers will need their own pressure washers and hoses long enough to reach outdoor spickets.

This could be a project that happens after our campus beautification event is completed.
